Autism Statistics and Information
1 in 150 Children are found to be on the Spectrum
Autism is the fastest growing developmental disability in the US. Only 5% of government supplied research funding goes towards Autism research.
There in no confirmed cause or cure for Autism, only treatment that may or may not work for each individual.
Divorce rate is found to be as high as 80% among parents of children with Autism.
This may sound grim but believe it or not we are hopeful. Our 5 year old daughter was diagnosed at age 3 with autism. She now has multiple diagnosis to include mild hypoxic cerebral palsy and oral-motor apraxia. In layman's terms, she has a hard time talking, moving and dealing with things.
Jo is a sweet child and a total barn rat. Unfortunately, this disease has stolen part of her childhood, we are determined to give it back.
Right now we are in what I call overload phase. She spends almost every waking hour being engaged. From 8 AM until 9 PM she is involved with either physical, occupation or speech therapy, one-to-one behavior training, school, therapeutic riding, martial arts, home-school, computer training etc. She uses a Dynavox computer to communicate and also has an autism service dog to assist with her safety.
Jo also is receiving amazing medical care addressing deficiencies in her body with various supplementation.
Insurance does not cover many things under the autism diagnosis, unfortunately and parents must rely upon creative measures to provide for their children on the spectrum.
We will use all funds generated from our horse business to fund Jo’s care! Thank you!
